Janesville Craig’s wrestling team came up three points short of a perfect day at the Big Eight East Duals on Saturday.

The Cougars won their first four matches before falling 39-36 to Sun Prairie in the championship dual meet.

Craig improved to 6-2 in the Big Eight, while Sun Prairie remained unbeaten at 8-0 and in a first-place tie with Middleton.

“We had our chances to beat Sun Prairie,” Craig coach Mark Mullen said. “A couple of matches could’ve gone either way, and that was the difference.

“It’s too bad because if Sun Prairie would’ve beat Middleton in their last (conference) dual meet, we could’ve tied for the championship.”

Craig’s Nate Farrell, Kyle LeCaptain, Zach Mulrooney and Aristide Serrano went 5-0 on the day, while Anthony Skrede (2-0) and Owen Ross (4-0) also went unbeaten.

Craig wrestles at Madison West in its final Big Eight dual on Tuesday night.
