EXCERPTS: Rock County Board approves same-sex benefits resolution

JANESVILLE—The Rock County Board on Thursday approved a resolution letting county employees in same-sex domestic partnerships share health care benefits with their significant others.

The vote was 20-7.

The resolution gives county employees in registered domestic partnerships the ability to include their significant others on their health plan. This includes prescription drug coverage, dental insurance and other employee benefits currently extended to married couples.

Previously, the board's finance committee approved the resolution, 3-2, on Jan. 2. The staff committee rejected it, 4-2, on Jan. 14.

During the same meeting, Administrator Craig Knutson announced he plans to step down Aug. 2 after leading the board for more than three decades.
