Man who died in Tuesday I-90/39 crash identified
JANESVILLE—The driver killed in a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 90/39 has been identified.
The deceased is Timothy E. McKinley, 37, of Milton, according to a Wisconsin State Patrol news release.
McKinley was the driver of an SUV that collided with a semitrailer truck on a railroad overpass bridge, according to the news release.
A motorist who was on the Interstate near the accident scene told The Gazette that lanes were icy. A State Patrol spokeswoman said later Tuesday that the cause still was under investigation.
The crash happened at 6:34 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-90/39 between Kennedy Road and Highway 26.
Witnesses told investigators the SUV was traveling north when it went through the median and entered the southbound lanes. The semi driver was unable to stop before the collision.
McKinley was alone in the SUV.
The truck driver, Kyle J. Schaefer, 23, of Beloit, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Mary's Janesville Hospital, according to the news release.
The southbound lanes were blocked, and traffic was diverted. The lanes reopened at 10:40 a.m.
