WHITEWATER--A mattress manufacturer outside of Whitewater announced plans to close its facility and lay off 42 employees, according to a notice Tuesday from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

VyMac informed the state Monday it would close its facility at W3130 Highway 59 East after deciding to sell the assets of the business, according to a letter to the state from company President Richard Wacker.

“The buyer will not be operating from the Whitewater facility and will not retain any of the employees,” he wrote.

Eight salaried and 34 hourly workers will be laid off starting in January through the closure on Feb. 28.

According to its website, VyMac is a mattress component sewing contractor established in 1958. It serves more than 250 companies at its 160,000-square-foot facility near Whitewater, according to its website.
