George H. Wilson, age 89, died on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center. He was born on April 23, 1924 in Lawrence County, IL, the son of the late Edgar and Nellie (Wright) Wilson. George graduated from Pinkstaff, IL High School and proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1946. On November 26, 1946, he married Elois A. Fjelstad and she predeceased him on the same date, nine years ago, January 15, 2005. George was a very active member at First Presbyterian Church, where he ushered for many years.

In his earlier years, George worked as a carpenter for area companies and bartended part time at the former Cordovan Inn, before he took employment with the Janesville School District. George worked at the former Marshall School, maintaining the boiler system for 24 years before retiring. George was a very personable and likable man, who made everyone he met feel like an old friend. He was a very active person, who enjoyed traveling with his wife, bowling, fishing and always proud of his cars. George was also an avid Chicago Bears fan and Cub fan. After retiring, George worked as a funeral assistant for the Whitcomb-Lynch-Overton Funeral Home. He was a member ot the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #197 and a life member of the VFW Kienow-Hilt Post #1621.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Judy and Lester Kersten of Brooklyn, WI; two grandsons, whom he was very proud of: Christopher (Diana) Kersten of Monona, WI, and Michael Kersten of Waunakee, WI; three great-grandchildren he adored: Hallie, Ethan, and Gracelynn; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his six siblings.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 17 N. Jackson St., Janesville with Rev. Dr. Bruce Jones officiating. Burial will be at Milton Lawns Memorial Park with full Military Rites provided by VFW Kienow-Hilt Post #1621. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
