Lawrence R. "Rick" Howland, age 55, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center. He was born in Mauston, WI on January 23, 1958, the son of Lawrence D. and Carol L. (Georgeson) Howland. Rick married Nancy L. Abernathy on November 14, 1981 in Janesville and she predeceased him on January 9, 2013. Rick worked for many years at Rath Manufacturing until his health declined. Rick was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed fishing and hunting large game in the US and Canada. At one time he held the record for the largest moose shot in Canada. He was also a very talented man, who was a very good artist, and very proficient at woodworking and cabinet making. Rick was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. He was a bear of a man, with a huge heart, who was loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his son: Lonny (Shawna) Howland of Hoonah, AK; his mother, Carol Wawroski of West Chester, IL; step-father to, Lynda and Schnell; his sister and brothers: Sandy Wawroski of Stone Park, IL, Louie Wawroski of West Chester, IL and Joe Wawroski of Necedah, WI, and many grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Orin and Mary Evans of Janesville and Dale and Khris Sauer of Milton. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his father, Lawrence; step-father, John Wawroski; step-daughter, Schnell; his brother, John and his sister, Brenda.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the WHITCOMB - LYNCH FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Jerry Amstutz officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
