Gymnastics: Parker, Craig turn in solid performances
Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker finished second in their respective divisions Saturday at the Purgolder Invitational gymnastics competition.
Craig was second in the Gold Division with 130.625, with Madison Memorial winning with a score of 133.525. Parker was second in the Purple Division behind the co-op team of Verona/Madison Edgewood with a score of 115.15.
Parker’s Hailey Leisten won the all-around title in the Purple Division with a score of 32.55.
“It was a good experience for us as a team to come up here and compete and have fun,” Parker coach Heidi Jegerlehner said. “And some of our girls were able to compete at the varsity level for the first time.”
Craig’s Sara Malmanger was second on balance beam and fourth on floor exercise, while teammate Michelle Cagney was fourth in the all-around.
“We had a really good meet today,” Craig coach Jean Welsch said. “We raised our score from Thursday, and it’s always good to see the score go up, especially at an invite where the scores are often tight.
“This was a good test for us since we compete with a lot of these teams in our conference.”
