UW-Rock hoops teams win

The UW-Rock County women’s basketball team edged UW-Marinette on Friday after nearly losing a four-point lead in the final minute.

Marinette was at the line with seven seconds to go in a tie game but missed both foul shots. On the ensuing Rock County charge down the floor, Lexie Weigand took a foul on her way to the basket with two seconds remaining. She made the first of her two free throws to win the game for the Rattlers.

UW-Rock County (10-7, 8-2 WCC) forced 30 turnovers in the game but was outrebounded 70-36. Leeanna Kinney scored 20 points to lead the Rattlers.

• Presley scores 43 in win for Rattler men—New enrollee Montrell Presley made his presence felt for the UW-Rock County men’s basketball team Friday night.

Presley scored 43 points in 30 minutes of play against UW-Marinette to key the Rattlers’ 107-88 win. He was 15-of-22 from the floor, including 6-for-6 from three-point range. The 43 points is the highest total in head coach Scott Lee’s tenure at Rock County (11-7, 4-1 WCC), which is in its seventh year.

Lee also singled out point guard Danny Dessent for his performance. He scored just three points, but he dished out six assists to one turnover and played well defensively, Lee said.

The Rattler men and women play next at UW-Marathon County on Wednesday, starting with the women at 5 p.m.
