Kyle Zucaro had no problem going to work on short notice on Friday night.

The Milton High sophomore was told by head wrestling coach Pat Jauch that he’d be wrestling at 182 pounds less than a minute before the bout was to begin. Zucaro responded by pinning his opponent and setting the tone for the Red Hawks.

The No. 9-ranked team in Division 1, they went on the road to beat No. 8 Stoughton, 37-21, in a Badger Conference dual.

“They bumped around a little bit in the upper weights, and we threw Kyle Zucaro out there at 182 and it was a huge pin for us,” Jauch said. “It was about a 30- or 45-second notice. We kind of rode that from there.”

The match started at 160 pounds and Milton suffered a close loss, but it responded with three straight victories, including Zucaro’s win by fall. Hunter Nelson also earned a pin at 285 pounds, and Dalton Shea, Levi Garrett and Nolan Shea each delivered victories at the lightest weights to help the Red Hawks pull away.

“Our kids always know what’s at stake when we dual with Stoughton. We didn’t wrestle as well as we could have, so we have some things to work on,” Jauch said. “But it ended up being a pretty good night.”
