Rain, melting snow and blocked stormwater drains could cause flooding
JANESVILLE—Rain, melting snow and plugged stormwater drains could result in localized flooding today through Saturday, city officials warned.
The National Weather Service forecast for Thursday through Saturday calls for a mix of freezing rain and rain. Rainfall amounts could reach a half inch or more. Extensive snowmelt also is expected and, combined with the rain, will result in significant runoff.
Stormwater drains in some areas may be blocked by ice and may not immediately drain the rain and melting snow. Short-term, localized flooding may result.
City crews have been working throughout the community to clear snow and ice from stormwater drains. Residents can assist by clearing drains adjacent to their properties.
Anyone with drainage problems should call the City Services Center at 608-755-3110.
