Girls basketball: Monroe edges Elkhorn

Free throws were the difference for Monroe High’s girls basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The Cheesemakers made five free throws down the stretch in holding off Elkhorn, 46-39, in a nonconference game.

Maddie Kallgren had 12 points to lead Monroe (3-4), which led by one after three quarters.

Erin Schahczinski had 12 points to lead Elkhorn (2-6).

Brielle Greenleaf had 24 points to lead Evansville, which fell to 0-8.
