Donald A. Mayer, 82, of Fort Atkinson, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, after a long illness. Donald was born on April 14, 1931, in Chicago, son of the late Andrew and Ella (Koenning) Mayer. He married Doris Wittig on Dec. 26, 1951, in Lake Geneva. Donald joined the US Army and served in the Korean War. While in the Army, he played first base for their baseball team. He was an avid Cub and Packer fan and enjoyed golfing at many different courses.

Donald is survived by his wife, Doris of Fort Atkinson; children: Debra (Tom) Phalen of Racine, Dale (Sandra) Mayer of Fort Atkinson, Diane (Fred) Wesner of Janesville, and Donna (Jim) Schroeder of Jefferson; grandchildren: Pamela, Derek, Hannah, Rachel, Paul, Amy, Dusty and Mindy; two brothers, Andrew and Gary (Cathy) Mayer, both of Delavan; and one sister, Gail Cunningham of Richmond, IL. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Patricia Mayer.

A Time of Reflection will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the DUNLAP MEMORIAL HOME, 604 South Main St., Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. on Saturday at the MEMORIAL HOME until time of service.
