UPDATE: Man hit by semitrailer truck on I-39 near Milton identified, in critical condition

JANESVILLE — A man attempting to remove a piece of luggage from the road was hit by a semitrailer truck Wednesday morning on Interstate 90/39 near Milton, according to a Wisconsin State Patrol news release.

The incident happened at 10:49 a.m. on northbound I-90/39.

Sean Odegaard, 19, from Brooklet, Ga., was in the right lane when the semitrailer truck driver, Charles Gresham, 54, couldn't stop before hitting Odegaard, according to the release.

Odegaard is in critical condition and is being treated at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville.

When the state patrol arrived at the scene, Odegaard was found lying on the right shoulder of the road, Sgt. Adrian Logan of the state patrol said.

Edgerton Fire and EMS and the Janesville Fire Department also responded.
