Janesville man accused of sexually assaulting patient at Golden Years care facility
WALWORTH — A Janesville man accused of sexually assaulting a patient at the Golden Years Retirement and Nursing Home in Walworth is due back in court Feb. 19, when a trial date could be set.
Matthew G. Hendrickson, 56, of 2914 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, is charged with second-degree sexual assault. He is accused of sexually assaulting a female patient during her physical therapy session, according to the criminal complaint.
The patient reported the sexual assault to village of Walworth Police Department on Dec. 4.
Hendrickson, a licensed physical therapist assistant, is described as not being the patient's usual therapist. He was sent from Greenfield Rehabilitation Agency to Golden Years through a medical staffing agency, according to the complaint.
In an initial interview with police, Hendrickson said he worked with the patient at Golden Years and admitted to touching her but “could not remember” certain specific actions, according to the complaint.
Hendrickson pleaded not-guilty to the charge Dec. 16.
In a statement, Golden Years confirmed the allegation and expressed its concern over the situation.
“We are wholeheartedly working with the Walworth Police Department and the Walworth County District Attorney's Office on this matter … Please know each of our staff are very special, gifted, and dedicated individuals that will continue to love and serve our residents," the statement reads.
Hendrickson was a temporary employee of the nursing home, according to the statement.
The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services lists Hendrickson's physical therapist assistant license as active and valid through Feb. 28, 2015. It was granted July 17, 2013.
He is free on a $1,000 cash bond.
