Louise McLane Hunter, Whitewater, WI (1923-2013)
December 7, 1923 - December 24, 2013
Louise McLane Hunter, age 90, of Whitewater, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Rainbow Hospice Center. She was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Sherman, TX, the daughter of William T. and Exa (Whitt) McLane, Sr. Louise received her BS degree in voice from North Texas State University and then a Masters from Julliard School of Arts in New York. While singing professionally at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey, she met her future husband, John R. Hunter. They were married on Nov. 17, 1951, and continued working together. John took a teaching position at a Junior College in Wharton, TX, and two children were born to the couple. The family moved to Tyler, TX, where John taught at another junior college for several years. After moving their family to Denton, TX, Louise began teaching voice at North Texas State while John pursued his Doctorate. In 1968, they moved to Whitewater, WI, where they both taught voice at UW-Whitewater, and Louise also taught private lessons for over 30 years. Amazingly enough she was legally blind from age 15, but traveled the world, played bridge, and enjoyed time on her son’s boat in Florida. She was a true southern lady who loved time with her family and always put the needs of others first.
Louise is survived by two children, Margaret (Thomas) Paull of Whitewater, John M. Hunter and Cindi Stage of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two grandchildren, Rebecca E. (David) Dorothy of Rocky Mount, NC, and David J. (Ashley) Paull of Portage, WI; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in August of 2005; and a brother, William T. McLane, Jr.
Memorials may be made to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson County.
