UW Varsity Band returns to DDHS for public concert
DELAVAN —The University of Wisconsin Varsity Band is making a return to Delavan-Darien High School.
The popular “sweater band,” directed by Michael Leckrone, will be back in the DDHS east gym, located at 150 Cummings St., Delavan, for another show scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, March 2. The band made its first public performance at DDHS in January 2013.
Tickets for the event are $10 for adults, $20 for a family four-pack (includes two adults and two children) and $2 for students and children. About 1,200 general seating tickets will be sold publicly.
More than 100 members of the UW Varsity Band will perform at the concert, which is being held in support of the Delavan-Darien High School bands program. The DDHS Band Boosters are sponsoring the show.
Last year, the concert raised enough money for the Boosters to buy nearly $8,000 risers to be used in the DDHS music department. Those risers will be used for the UW band at the upcoming concert, and also at such school events as band concerts, choir concerts, theater performances, elementary and middle school musical performances, and other special events.
Delavan-Darien High School alumnus Dan Clark (Class of 2011) is a UW Band member and will be in the show. He plays the trumpet. Also, DDHS art teacher Amanda Vogt is a UW Band alumni.
The UW Varsity Band is known throughout the world for its outstanding performances at UW athletic events and concerts throughout the state and country. Its members were a highlight of the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., on New Year's Day in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
A limited supply of tickets are being sold at the Piggly Wiggly store, 1414 E. Geneva St., Delavan, and at DDHS.
Doors to the concert will open approximately one hour before the show.
