John T. Griebel, Walworth County Coroner passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. He was born the son of the late Clarence A. and Lota (Greniger) Griebel. He graduated from Elkhorn High School with the Class of 1952. He began his career with the Walworth County Sheriff Department as a Deputy in 1956. John served his first term as County Coroner in 1960. Founder of Griebel Corporation in 1961 with operations including John’s Bootery of Elkhorn, James Bootery of Fort Atkinson, a management and Consulting firm since 1963. John served on the Board of Directors and later as President of the Wisconsin Coroner and Medical Examiners Association, Other commissions and appointments included Justice of the Peace 1957 to 1960, City of Elkhorn Health Officer, Board of Directors of State Bank of Elkhorn, First Wisconsin Bank of Elkhorn and First Star Bank of Lake Geneva, Professional memberships included 35 years with the Elkhorn Area Fire Department serving as Secretary for 24 years, member of the Elkhorn Lions Club since 1957, Elkhorn Chamber of Commerce and Elkhorn Commercial Development Corporation.

John is survived by his wife Barbara Brand-Griebel; two cousins, Dick (Joy) and Phil (Carol) Griebel; Business associates: James A. and Shelia Vidmar J.D.’s their daughters, Eleanor R. and John’s godchild, Carolyn A. Vidmar; Special and Closest friends including: Brenton, Frye, Heinrich, Hofer, Hoffman, Katzman, Latsch, Miller, Molot, Olson, Palmer, Sutton, Wilson families; and a host of many other friends from surrounding communities of Walworth County.

Private funeral service will be held followed by entombment at Roselawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Delavan, WI. A public memorial visitation will be 1 PM to 5 PM, Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Evergreen Golf Club, N6246 US Hwy 12 Elkhorn, WI.
