Thompson leads Parker to nonconference win
The Janesville Parker boys basketball team went into the holiday break on a high note.
Adam Thompson scored 31 points and the Vikings went on the road to beat Beaver Dam, 72-62, in a nonconference game that closed out the 2013 portion of their schedule.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the way they played today,” Parker coach Ryan Masterson said. “We came together after a tough week with two losses and playing without our leading scorer.
“We weathered the storm, and Thompson was huge.”
The Vikings opened up a nine-point lead by halftime, but Beaver Dam made its run in the third quarter. Brett Ferstl hit four of his six 3-pointers and scored 16 of his team-high 26 points in the third.
But Parker held strong in the fourth quarter. Thompson and the Vikings broke Beaver Dam’s press and the senior guard went 11 of 11 from the free-throw line in the game to help help salt it away.
“He had a number of big three-point plays,” Masterson said.
The Vikings return to the court Jan. 7.
