Cougars finish fourth at Stech
The Janesville Craig wrestling team had plenty to be happy about at the E.H. Stech Invitational in West Allis this weekend.
The Cougars got three second-place finishes on their way to a fourth-place team finish at the presitgious 19-team invite. Craig scored 127.5 points. West Allis Central won with 181.5.
“The kids that placed did real well,” Mullen said. “We lost some very heartbreaking matches, though. If they don’t get beat out, we’d be close to winning the thing.”
Cougars’ Airk Furseth (103 pounds), Zack Mulrooney (145) and Arstride Serrano (160) each finished in second place in their respective brackets.
“(Serrano) shocked a lot of people there,” Mullen said. “Mulrooney took second place, which is very good. Airk lost a tough match in the championship. The hard thing is we only won one of the really tight, close matches.”
Anthony Skrede added a fourth-place finish at 138 pounds for the Cougars. Heavyweight Owen Ross wrestled his way back to the fifth-place match.
“Owen Ross was a nice surprise,” Mullen said. “He had to wrestle back against a guy that pinned him (Friday). A lot of our younger guys got good experience.”
