Richard J. "Dick" Morris, Clinton (1927-2013)

Longtime Boone County dairy & crop farmer, Richard J. “Dick” Morris, age 86 of Clinton died Saturday December 14, 2013 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 15, 1927 in Pecatonica, IL, the son of Myron J. and Blanche M. Maitland Morris. He was a graduate of Capron High School, class of 1945. Dick enlisted into the U.S. Army on March 8, 1946 and served his country until his honorable discharge on April 24, 1947. He married Phyllis Hawley on November 24, 1951 in Clinton. A Manchester Township farmer all of his life, Dick loved the planting and picking of corn. He also sold seed corn for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Clinton VFW and a former member of the Harvard Moose Club. He was a skilled and world class debater which aided him greatly, since he was an avid Chicago Bear and Cub fan. Dick also enjoyed bowling, softball & golf. Most of all, Dick loved his family and cherished all family gatherings. He was most proud of all family sporting events and followed each game with the greatest support.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Phyllis; his children: Patricia (Tim) Downey of Poplar Grove, Carol (Don) Esselman of Avalon, Ken Morris of Poplar Grove and Denny (Karen) Morris of Beloit; eight grandchildren, Steve Esselman, Dan (Kate) Esselman, Mike (Dawn) Morris, Paul Morris, Jeni (Dan) Malone, Geoff, Jacey and Kylie Morris; seven great grandchildren, Madilyn, Mason, Claire, James, Jordan, Karlee & Maycee; his sister, Corinne Scott of Loves Park, IL; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jim; granddaughter, Kelly; and brother, Bob.
Dick’s Celebration of Life will be 4:30 p.m. on Sunday December 22, 2013 in the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. David Carlson officiating. Family will greet friends and family on Sunday in the Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial may be given the Clinton EMS.
