Ida Evelyn (Borkenhagen) Hillison, 95, passed away on Dec. 14, 2013, at the Beloit Health & Rehabilitation Center, Beloit. She was born in Plymouth Township on July 3, 1918, the daughter of August and Ida (Kettle) Borkenhagen. She was the eighth of 10 children. Ida was married to Ogden (Bub) Hillison on Dec. 31, 1938, in Dubuque, IA. They were married for 64 years and lived most of them on their beloved farm on Plymouth Church Road, Orfordville, where she raised her family. Ida enjoyed and loved her family of eight children, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren and another on the way. She loved our Dad, her family, her church and her friends. Ida was a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as Superintendent for many years. She was also Chairman of the Board, Church Board Secretary, and a member of the Plymouth Methodist Guild Ladies Group. Ida was one of the longest-attending members of the church, 81 years, joining when she was just 13 years old and remaining a member until her death.

Ida enjoyed many hobbies and interests. She had flower gardens and a large yard she truly loved to mow. She liked bowling, golfing, fishing, quilt making, baking, needlepoint and music. She also loved to feed the many species of birds that flocked to her feeders every day. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Nashville. She loved the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Team and attended several games. Together with her sister, Wilma Larsen, Ida spent time enjoying family and friends in California. Ida and Bub also enjoyed many family trips. Ida and Bub liked and enjoyed riding the Amtrak out West as well as down South. Ida enjoyed politics, and as everyone in several counties knew, she was a loyal Democrat and loved discussing politics. She especially loved MSNBC and the television program, Hardball. Ida spent a fun-filled week in Washington DC, where she met several of her favorite politicians. She expressed her love of politics by working the polls in Plymouth Township, both as a Chairperson and poll worker for over 30 years. Ida was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for more than 60 years, served on the Ladies Auxiliary of the Orfordville American Legion Post 209, and was a 4-H Leader.

Ida is survived by her eight children: Ogden (Janet) Hillison, Jr. of Orfordville, Janet (Jim) Deeds of Roscoe, IL, Barbara (Bill) Sather of Orfordville, Eileen Hillison of Madison, Louise (Robert) Humphries of Beloit, Adlai Hillison, Sr. of Markle, IN, Keith (Sheila) Hillison, Sr. of Beloit, and Steven (Susie) Hillison, Sr. of Monroe; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; the last of her sisters, Ethel Buckner of South Beloit; sister-in-law, Hazel Hillison of Janesville; cousin, Marion (Kettle) Sievert of Ridgecrest, CA; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and special friends.
