Russell Carlos Heckert, Hot Springs, AR (1930-2013)
January 13, 1930 - December 11, 2013
Russell Heckert passed on from this earthly plane early morning on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. He died peacefully at the Village Springs Skilled Nursing Facility. He was greeted by his mother, Althea (Steinbicer); his father, Elmer; his daughter, Cindy; and his son, Jeffrey.
Born in Shawano, WI, on Jan. 13, 1930, Russ went to school in Antigo, and Elkhorn, WI, then served in the Air Force as an air tower control operator during the Korean War. He received his Bachelors Degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin while working full time and raising a family. His entire professional career was spent working for various companies in the Defense Industry as a mechanical engineer, retiring in 1994 from Northrop Grumman. Russ’ passion for golf led him and Carol to retire in the golf “paradise” of Hot Springs Village, AR. He also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Rotary Club and the choir of Woodlands Presbyterian Church. His Alzheimer’s disease slowly ate away at his mind and his body, and took away many of the things he enjoyed in life…but memories of his loving-kindness and quiet demeanor will remain in our hearts always.
Russ is dearly missed by his wife of 34 years, Carol (Nakielny); his daughter, Kathy McMillon and her adopted son, Billy of Denver, CO; a sister, Laura Flemming of Rockford, IL; a brother, Ken, and sister-in-law, Janet of Elkhorn WI; Shirley Zalewski of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren, Kaylee and Austin Shepperd (children of deceased daughter, Cindy); Terri Craft, mother of his three children; daughter-in-law, Susan Heckert (widow of Jeffrey Heckert); numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Elkhorn, WI.
Donations may be sent to Woodlands Presbyterian Church, Alzheimer’s Arkansas, or Lester Dierksen Memorial Hospice in Hot Springs AR.
Arrangements are by HOT SPRINGS FUNERAL HOME.
