Gilbert W. "Gil" Bergdoll, age 92, of Janesville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at his home. He was born in Lake Mills, WI, on Jan. 22, 1921, the son of the late Walter G. and Esther E. (Blasing) Bergdoll. Gil graduated from Lake Mills High School and honorably served in the US Army during World War II. On June 23, 1945, he married Arvilla M. Lyter in Penbrook, PA, and together they had two children. He was a longtime member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Gil worked as a Golf Course Superintendent at various courses in the midwest for over 30 years, retiring after 13 years at the Janesville Country Club. Gil loved the game of golf and continued playing into his late 80's. A quiet and sincere gentleman, Gil was highly respected in the area, as a golf course superintendent, a job he truly loved. He was a very traditional family man, who worked long and hard hours during the golf season, providing for his family.

Gil is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Arvilla; two children, Larry (Ann Spoden) Bergdoll of Janesville, and Susan Weber of Memphis, TN; grandchildren: Rosin Bergdoll of Waukesha, WI, and Jon (Kim) Weber of Memphis, TN; and two great-grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Stan Weber.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2940 Mineral Pt. Ave., Janesville, with Rev. Cory Rajek officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the WHITCOMB - LYNCH FUNERAL HOME and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the CHURCH. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made in Gil's name to Mercy Hospice or Mt. Calvary Pre-school.

A special thank you to the staff at Mercy Hospice and Alternative Home Care, for the wonderful care given to Gil. Also a warm thank you to Pastor Cory Rajek and Sister Jan Thurner for their prayers and support during this difficult time.
