MILWAUKEE--The Janesville Bluebirds lost a tough one Saturday night.

Milwaukee Marquette built a 3-0 lead but had to hang on for a 3-2 noconference win in boys hockey.

Janesville’s high school co-op team got two goals from Conner Perkins but could not climb back from the early deficit.

“I thought 5-on-5, we were the better team on the ice,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “But we took a couple of dumb penalties, and they took advantage of their opportunities.

“It’s frustrating because we played two games this week and could’ve won them both. We’re pretty young and our inexperience shows at times, but we’re going to be OK.”

Janesville hosts Madison West in a Big Eight Conference game Tuesday night at the Ice Arena.
