BELOIT--The free-throw line fouled up Janesville Parker’s boys basketball team Saturday night.

Beloit Memorial made 16 of 24 attempts from the line, including all six in the fourth, while the Vikings misfired on 11 of 25 attempts at the line in a 56-53 Big Eight loss at Barkin Arena.

The Purple Knights (5-2, 3-2) took the lead for good at 54-53 on two free throws from Denzel Barnes with 1:34 left and pushed the lead to 56-53 on two more free throws from Blake Farr with 12 seconds left. Parker (2-4, 1-4) had a chance to tie the game at the end, but Cullen Osmond’s 3-pointer from the corner rattled in and out.

“Once again our kids competed right to the end,” Parker coach Ryan Masterson said. “We got a good open look to tie the game, and we had a lot of confidence in Cullen knocking that shot down. It just wasn’t meant to be.

“We’re undersized in about every game we play, but our guys continue to scrap and get after it. It’s a tough loss, but we’ll learn from it.”

Adam Thompson led the Vikings with 15 points, while J.J. Scott added 13, including nine in the third quarter when Parker grabbed a 44-43 lead.

Draylen Fair led Beloit with 21 points.

Parker plays three games next week beginning with a nonconference tilt at Monroe on Tuesday night
