Douglas C. "Doug" Nelson, 69, of Edgerton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville. He was born on Aug. 9, 1944, in Edgerton, son of the late Gilman and Dorothy (Nelson) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Chyrl Ylvisaker, on March 21, 1964, at Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church. Doug worked as a tinsmith at General Motors for 32 years, until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the birds, feeding the deer in his back yard, watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and the Albion Tigers. He enjoyed going to the cabin and going to "Church" on Sundays at Utica. He also enjoyed his fishing trips to Lake Eire and Lake Michigan, and going for rides in his truck. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 95. His special love was spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Chyrl; two daughters, Carrie Nelson and Tanya Stanek; one son, Todd (Kathy) Nelson; three grandchildren: Zachary, Abigail and Emily, all of Edgerton. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Katie Lynn Nelson; and one brother, Thomas Nelson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at CENTRAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Edgerton, with Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Jenson Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the EHLERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, US HWY 51 N, Edgerton, from 4 until 7 p.m. and at the CHURCH on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
