Lillian M. Kelly, age 85, of Brodhead, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on April 6, 1928, in Osseo, WI, the daughter of Jordan and Thora (Evenson) Torpen. She married Nathan L. Kelly on May 3, 1947, in Decorah, IA. He passed away in 1987. Lil attended the United Congregational Church of Christ, Brodhead. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #2312 and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as President of both. Following her marriage, Lil worked for Industrial and Clean Towel Co., LaCrosse, WI. In 1958, she was transferred to Beloit, WI, to start a branch office with her husband, Nate. In 1960, she and Nate moved to Brodhead, to become nursing home managers at the Withee Nursing Home for the next 12 years. Following this, Lil worked at the Krattiger Nursing Home in Brodhead. Lil continued in the care giving profession for many, many years. She was well known in the Brodhead area for her caring heart, friendly manner, and love of others.

Lillian is survived by her children, Karen (Ronald) Foss of LaCrescent, MN, Nancy (Nelson) Shell of Brodhead; siblings, James Torpen of Eau Claire, WI, Beatrice (Arnold) Larson of Osseo, WI, Clarice Gran of Pigeon Falls, WI, Sonia Andrus of Belle Plain MN; grandchildren: Denise Foss of Madison, WI, David (Karla) Foss of Lewiston, MN, Jon Russell of Brodhead; step-grandchildren: Chris Klessinger of Juda, WI, Kim Inman, Laura Usher, Sue Rosheisen, all of Brodhead, Aarin Schnackenberg of Ridgeland, MN; three great-grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; four step great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings: Raymond, Donald and Ivan Torpen, Joyce Leer and Evelyn Larson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at the UNITED CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH of Christ, Brodhead, with Pastor Marlea Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI.
