Douglas G. Jones, age 71, of rural Beloit, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 5, 2013, at Beloit Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 29, 1942, in Beloit, the son of the late George A. and Helen M. (Elliott) Jones. He was a graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. Doug was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, and had served his country during the early years of the Vietnam War. On April 30, 1966, he married Delores J. "Dee" Mezera in Madison, WI. Doug worked for many years as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Rock County Highway Dept., as well as with several construction companies in the area until his retirement. He was a member of the Heavy Equipment Operators Union, Local #139. He also was a Life Member of the Beloit V.F.W. Post #2306, and was an active member of the Marine Corps League. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and had been active with the BINGO program at their school.

Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman, and especially looked forward to his annual fishing trip with his sons at their cabin in Richland County. He was an accomplished cook, baker, and winemaker, and enjoyed preparing wonderful meals and treats for his family and friends! His greatest joys were tinkering around on his farm, and spending time with his family, especially his 5 beloved grandchildren!

Doug is survived by his wife, Dee; his three children: Doug (Paula) Jones of Janesville, Dawn (Mike) Cagney of Whitewater, WI, and Dan Jones of Janesville; his two sisters, Patti of Belvidere, IL, and Sandra of California; his five grandchildren: Alyssa, Brian, Nathan, Jackie, and Lexie; nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services celebrating Doug's life will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, with Deacon John Houseman officiating. Military rites will immediately follow the service. Friends may call on Monday evening from 4 until 7 p.m., or on Tuesday morning from 10 until 11 a.m. at the FUNERAL HOME.
