Parker, Craig open gymnastics season together

The 2013-14 season got underway Saturday for the Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker gymnastics teams.

Competing in the Craig Invitational, the Cougars finished fourth and the Vikings fifth.

Mount Horeb won the invite title with 136.375, while Kenosha’s co-op team was second with 134.95.

“I thought our girls did a great job for their first meet,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “We have a young team this year and are a work in progress.”

Parker’s Hailey Leisten led local gymnasts with a fifth-place finish on floor exercise and tying for sixth in the all-around.

Craig’s Gabrielle Geller tied for fifth on uneven bars.
