Thelma Parr, age 97, of Janesville, died on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Milton Senior Living. She was born in Janesville, on July 21, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Eva (Hampf) Quade. She married Harold Parr in Janesville, on May 25, 1940, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1996. Thelma grew up on a dairy farm near Emerald Grove. She attended Van Allen country school and graduated from Janesville High School in 1933. Upon graduation, she took an automobile trip with a girlfriend to the Black Hills of South Dakota, very adventuresome for the time. She worked at the Parker Pen Co. and later for the Agricultural Extension Office located above the Janesville Post Office. Her future husband, Harold, worked at the Post Office, and together they raised their four children on a farm on the outskirts of Janesville. It was important to Thelma that her children and grandchildren had an appreciation of the beauties of nature as she did. Thelma was active in 4-H organizations growing up and with her children. She was a member of the St. Mary's Church Women's Auxiliary, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and the Rock Haven Volunteer group.

Thelma is survived by her children: Dennis (Nancy) Parr of Washington, Suzanne Gray of Ohio, and Mary (John) Paul of Milton; 10 grandchildren: Tami, Susan, and Kathleen Parr, Sasha Siegel, William and Adriane Gray, Kristin Williams, Brian Paul, Kelly Busse, and Erin Olivera; and five great-grandchildren: Sean and Ryan Siegel, Wyatt Williams, Connor Busse, and Kennedy Paul. She is further survived by her sister, Frances Utzig; and her brother, Alvin Quade. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Gary; son-in-law, Harry Gray; and her brother, Harold.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at the CHURCH. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
