Bluebirds go 3-0 in Beloit tourney
The Janesville Bluebirds capped off a perfect start to their season with a pair of victories in the Beloit Memorial tournament on Saturday.
Janesville’s Justin Runde notched a hat trick in the team’s 9-2 victory over Greendale in the afternoon. The team came back at night and Sam Iverson scored three goals in the second period of a 7-0 victory over host Beloit.
“I think it was three games we should’ve won,” Janesville head coach John Mauermann said. “(Saturday) was a real big day, because Beloit only played one game, and it was our second game of the day. We had good energy and moved the puck well. I was wondering what type of shape we’d be in, but we played well.”
The Bluebirds went 3-0 on the weekend to open their season, and Mauermann was pleased to see the goal-scoring spread around on Saturday.
Chase Nyborg scored his first goal of the year against Greendale, and Runde scored again in the nightcap.
Michael MacDougall earned the shutout in the late game, where he also notched an assist.
“It’s good, too, because our third line had four goals in the two games,” Mauermann said.
”The first line did a nice job putting the puck in the net. It was a good team effort.”
Janesville plays its home-opener on Tuesday, hosting Verona.
