Your Views: Case involving Hobby Lobby could create slippery slope
I’m retired, and I liked my boss, but I sure wouldn’t want her with me at the doctor’s office. And I don’t want to have to think about her opinion every time I open my medicine cabinet or take a prescription.
But that’s just what could happen under an upcoming Supreme Court case about whether for-profit businesses can deny their employees access to contraceptive coverage. This effort is led by Hobby Lobby, a for-profit arts and crafts chain. If the Supreme Court rules in Hobby Lobby’s favor, it could open a slippery slope where bosses could deny more than your vacation request; they could deny your contraception or other health care they disapprove of.
Virtually all American women use birth control at some point in their lives. It helps them pursue careers, complete their education, manage their health, and plan their families. I know Hobby Lobby is a Christian business and that people have the right to their own beliefs, but I say “keep your theology off my biology”!
