UPDATE: Lake Geneva man killed in Thanksgiving Day crash
TOWN OF LYONS—A two-car crash on Thursday killed a Lake Geneva man and left two others hospitalized, authorities said.
According to a release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office, Jeffrey D. Peiffer, 52, of Lake Geneva was killed after his Nissan Sentra car crossed the centerline at Highway 120 north of Prairie Road and struck a Chrysler 300 car driven by Wolfgang Schubert, 69, Wauconda, Ill.
Peiffer was driving southbound and struck Schubert's northbound car head-on, according to reports.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. Peiffer, who was pronounced dead at the scene, did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt, according to reports.
Schubert was flown by helicopter to Summit Hospital, Oconomowoc, with critical injuries, according to the release. He was listed in fair condition Friday morning.
A passenger in Schubert's car, Rosalina L. Deinlein, 40, Morton Grove, Ill., was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Hospital, Elkhorn, with unknown injuries, according to the release. Her status was not available at press time.
Police closed the road near the crash for several hours while a Walworth County crash investigation unit studied the scene. Walworth County Sheriff's Capt. Scott McClory said it's too early to know whether fatigue, alcohol or other possible factors led to the crash. Officials plan an autopsy on Peiffer to determine exact cause of death, according to the release.
