John Eric Anderson, age 86, of Janesville, was born to eternal life on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center. He was born in Milwaukee, on June 27, 1927, the son of Carl and Anita (Paff) Anderson. He graduated from West Milwaukee High School as valedictorian in 1945, and served in the U.S. Army. After serving toward the end of World War II, he obtained a degree in metallurgical engineering from the UW-Madison. It was here that he met Joanne Olsen, whom he married on June 21, 1952, in Milwaukee. After graduation, he was employed at Louis Allis, General Electric, Parker Pen and several subsidiaries, and at SSI Technologies, where he served as Executive Vice President as well as part owner. John retired in 1990. He volunteered for many organizations, serving at times on the boards as well as Executive Director of the Janesville Chamber of Commerce (now Forward Janesville), Rotary Botanical Gardens, Rock County Habitat for Humanity, and Healthnet, of which he was one of the founders. Through the years, he was involved with Y's Men of the Janesville YMCA, Janesville Education Foundation, Blackhawk Technical College Foundation, the Salvation Army, the Alliance of Greater Janesville, SCORE, and various technical and trade associations. He received the Alexis de Tocqueville award along with his wife, Joanne, from the United Way of Rock County in 2003, and the Distinguished Service Citation from the University of Wisconsin College of Engineering in 2000. John served as Chairman of the Koshkonong District and President of the Sinnissippi Council and in other capacities for the local Boy Scouts of America throughout 40 years. He also was active in several roles within the Janesville First Congregational-United Church of Christ, including that of President of the Congregation.

John is survived by his wife, Joanne Olsen Anderson; children, Marti of Milwaukee; Amy of Hartford; Amy's daughter, Jessica (Ryan) Schwartz, and son, (great grandson) Ryan, Jr.; Eric (Miriam) of Madison and their children, Carl and Rebecca; Tobin (Carol) of Southlake, TX, and their children, Zachary, Kira, Tyler and Kirsten. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at THE FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, Janesville, with Rev. Wesley Bixby officiating, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the CHURCH. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church-UCC or to Rotary Botanical Gardens.
