Man sentenced for trying to fund drug deal
MADISON—A federal judge sentenced a Clinton man to five years in prison Tuesday for trying to help his brother buy a kilogram of cocaine in Beloit last year, according to a news release.
A jury found Johnny Espinoza, 32, guilty in September of “aiding and abetting” his brother, 31-year-old Jose Espinoza, in a July 2012 drug deal, authorities said.
Johnny and Jose Espinoza pooled their money to come up with $24,000, which they wanted to use to buy a kilogram of cocaine from an undercover police officer and a confidential informant, according to the release.
Judge Barbara B. Crabb, who sentenced Johnny Espinoza on Tuesday, also sentenced Jose Espinoza to 6˝ years in prison in December 2012, records show.
