BELOIT—Beloit police are looking for a suspect in a weekend homicide, though authorities are not yet saying what led to the fatal shooting of a South Beloit, Ill., teen.

Police were called to 1221 Wisconsin Ave. just after 2 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release, and found 19-year-old Armando A. Lopez had been shot at the home.

Lopez was later pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.

Authorities have identified a suspect in the shooting, 20-year-old Ezekiel “Chucky” Villa of Beloit, and have a temporary felony warrant for his arrest, Beloit police Capt. William Tyler said Monday.

Villa has connections around Beloit, Janesville and Rock County, Tyler said. Beloit police are working with law enforcement around the county for help arresting him, he said.

Police described Villa as a 5-foot, 10-inch, 190-pound Hispanic man, with black hair and brown eyes.

Asked if investigators had any indication why Lopez was shot, Tyler said, “not that I can talk about at this time.”

Police wrote in a news release that Lopez was attending a party at the home.

Investigators are working to finish up their investigation and forward reports to the Rock County District Attorney's office to get an arrest warrant, Tyler said.

Tyler also would not go into detail about how police determined Villa was a suspect in Lopez's death, saying: “There may be others, but (Villa) is one we have identified at this point.”

Authorities asked anyone with information about Villa or the shooting to call Beloit police at 608-364-6801 or the Greater Beloit Area CrimeStoppers at 608-362-7463.
