The Friends of Oak Hill Chapel would like to thank the public for the overwhelming response to our open house Nov. 2.

The steady flow of people throughout the day showed great, positive community support that lent itself to a very productive day.

Original stained glass found in the basement, an original map, old newspaper articles and pictures of the organ captured a lot of attention.

People came with stories and heartfelt reminiscences of their history with the chapel. Many remembered attending funeral services in the chapel. Some pointed out where caskets were lowered to the basement when they could not be buried in the winter.

All in all, a clear message was given that the chapel be retained and brought back to its original beauty. We thank everyone so very much for attending and for the many generous donations received.

We would also like to thank The Gazette, The Messenger, WCLO and JATV for their support in covering our efforts and helping bring public awareness.

Our task is still before us, but we are well on our way for a successful campaign to raise $40,000 by Feb. 10, 2014.

Clearly, the chapel has a special place in the hearts of so many members of our community.
