Milton, Janesville police investigating park vandalisms, burglaries
MILTON—Vandalism at Schilberg Park over the weekend left a bathroom trashed and sprayed with graffiti, Milton police reported.
According to a release, the Milton Police Department got reports Sunday that someone had gone into the pavilion restrooms at Schilberg Park, which is on East High Street on the city's west side, and damaged the rooms “extensively.”
Police report someone tore two sinks off the walls in the women's restroom and destroyed them. Vandals spray painted the walls of the restroom, set a fire in one of the sinks and tore a soap dispenser off the wall.
Police found a large rock in the bathroom they believe was used to bludgeon the sinks. The vandalism caused about $1,000 in damage, according to the release.
Police haven't made arrests in the vandalism, which police believe happened somewhere between Friday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, Janesville police are stepping up patrols at city parks, including the Youth Sports Complex on Wuthering Hills Drive and Dawson Park on the south side.
Mount Olivet and Oakhill Cemeteries on the west side also had break-ins and theft of property, police reported.
Those incidents occurred during overnight hours of Thursday and Friday of last week, police reports indicate.
Youth sports officials have reported thousands of dollars of damage to doors and locks to the facilities, and other reports include someone hosing down a press box with a fire extinguisher and squirting mustard and ketchup all over a concession area, according to repots.
While that activity smacks of youth crimes, Sgt. Charles Aagard of the Janesville Police Department said the crimes are being considered serious because they involve theft.
The police department has reported the burglars or burglars in the Janesville incidents have stolen leaf blowers, gas cans, vehicle keys and an air compressor.
Police said they're not sure if the Milton vandalism and the Janesville incidents are linked.
