JANESVILLE—Hours after being released from jail, a Janesville man was arrested on a charge of fourth-offense drunken driving after a police officer saw him drive by with a garbage can wedged under his car.

Robert B. Briggs, 42, of 3907 Milton Ave., No. 120, Janesville, was arrested at 11:16 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Mineral Point Avenue after police noticed a garbage can stuck under the front bumper of the vehicle he was driving. When they stopped the vehicle, Briggs admitted he had been drinking after being released from jail earlier in the evening, according to a police department news release.

Briggs, who also was ticketed for operating while revoked, failed a field sobriety test. His blood alcohol concentration level is unknown pending the release of a toxicology report. He was released to a responsible party, according to police.
