MIDDLETON—Three Janesville Craig High girls swimming records were set Saturday during the Middleton Sectional meet.

Craig finished seventh in the team standings.

“It was just an outstanding meet for us,” said Craig coach Brian Kitzman. “It was rewarding to see how the hard work these girls put in pay off.”

The Cougars did not have any automatic qualifiers to the state meet.

The lone individual event school record was set by Kendall Cawkins in the 50 freestyle. Cawkins' time of 25.17 broke her own record of 25.41 set earlier this season in a dual meet against Janesville Parker.

The 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams of Sierra Rhodes, Cawkins, Maggie Gorman and Alexis Roach set school records.

The 200 freestyle team finished in 1:42.86, breaking the mark it had set at Fort Atkinson this year of 1:43.26.

The 400 freestyle team finished in 3:46.76, breaking the mark set in 2009 of 3:48.66.

Tess Frey of the Edgerton/Evansville co-op team won the 100 freestyle in 52.64 to earn the automatic state berth.

In Division 2 at the Whitewater Sectional, Emma Bare led Fort Atkinson to a second-place finish behind Shorewood. Bare won the 50 freestyle and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. The Blackhawks' Alexis Kent won the 100 butterfly.

Elkhorn's Kady Ruemmele won the 100 backstroke.

At the Baraboo Sectional in Division 2, Milton's Bridgette Alexander won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke to lead the Red Hawks to a fifth-place finish.

Milton's Chelsea Calhoon won the 200 freestyle.
