County events honor veterans
WALWORTH COUNTY — Numerous events are planned around the county and surrounding area to commemorate Veterans Day.
All events listed are for Monday, Nov. 11.
The American Legion Post 95 will hold a presentation at Phoenix Middle School at 8 a.m. and a presentation at Delavan-Darien High School at 9:30 a.m.; a ceremony with flag raising and gun salute will be at 11 a.m. at the legion hall on South Second Street, with a luncheon to follow.
A reading and salute featuring color guard and rifle squad begins at 11 a.m. outside the American Legion hall, corner of Church and School streets.
Remembrance and appreciation program with American Legion Post 45 and the VFW at Tibbets Elementary School on County Highway A, 9 a.m; flag ceremony and gun salute at downtown Elkhorn square at 11 a.m.; VFW Post 6375, 16 S. Broad St., will have cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 for veterans ($10 fee).
Legion and VFW program at Fontana Elementary School, 450 S. Main St., at 10:30 a.m.
Legion Post 24 and all veterans will participate in an assembly at 9:30 a.m. at Lake Geneva Middle School, 600 Bloomfield Road; post members will gather at 11 a.m. at corner of Broad and Main streets for gun salute. Chris Brookes will present “Armed Forces Salute” at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake Geneva Public Library.
Pell Lake/Genoa City
Legion Post 183 of Genoa City and VFW of Pell Lake program at Brookwood Middle School, 630 Kossuth St. in Genoa City, at 9 a.m.
Wisconsin Veterans Home, 21425 Spring Road, ceremony at 11 a.m., including an invocation, presentation of colors and speeches by State Sen. John Lehman, State Rep. Robin Vos and Larry Kutschma of the Wisconsin Veterans Board to commemorate 50th anniversary of the start of the Vietnam War.
Second annual veterans appreciation open house to honor clients who have served, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Exemplar Financial Network, 630 Kenosha St. in Walworth.
Veterans program for residents, 2:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Golden Years, 270 Ridge Road in Walworth.
American Legion Post 173 hosting dinner at its hall on South Wisconsin Street, with social time at 6:30 p.m. and meal at 7 p.m.
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
Activities: 11 a.m., remembrance ceremony with special performance by the 1ST Brigade Band, Hamilton Room, University Center; noon, reception for Inspiration and Solace with band and field music of the Civil War and photos from Gettysburg, light appetizers and beverages, Roberta's Art Gallery in the University Center; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. free lunch for veteran and military service members at all UW-W dining services; 7:30 p.m., 1st Brigade Band performance, Young Auditorium (free for UW-W students, $5 for all other tickets).
