DELAVAN -- Gov. Scott Walker returned to his former middle school Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the Boys and Girls Club of Walworth County.

The club is the first of its kind in Walworth County and will offer after school programs enhancing the social and academic skills of the students in Walworth County.
Walker, who attended Phoenix Middle School while growing up in Delavan, toured parts of the school dedicated to the program. He met with some of the children to see what they were working on and to sign autographs.

The Delavan-Darien School District is giving the Boys and Girls Club free use of the space for programming that is available from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays when school is in session.

The programs are intended to improve study skills, introduce students to career options, and teach the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
