Donkey on road leads to accident
TOWN OF UNION—The danger from deer on the roads is on its annual increase, but a Brodhead man recently learned about other animals that can wander onto highways.
Richard D. Hauser, 59, of 1306 1st Center Ave., Brodhead, was on his way to work around 5:14 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, when the accident occurred.
Hauser was driving north on Highway 104, just past the intersection with Milbrandt Road when he pulled into the southbound lane to pass a semitrailer truck. That's when his Toyota hit a donkey that was standing in the road, according to a Rock County Sheriff's Office accident report.
The impact sent the car into the west ditch, back onto the highway in front of the oncoming truck and into the east ditch.
Hauser apparently was not injured. There was no word on the condition of the donkey.
