JANESVILLE—Seventeen seconds into Saturday’s NAHL game between the Janesville Jets and Minnesota Magicians—barely enough time for the players to break a sweat—the Magicians were ahead 1-0 on a Kris McKinzie goal.

Drew Callin, a Middleton native, scored a pair of goals for the Jets to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period, but Thomas Delaney put the Magicians ahead for good after 9:08 of the third period. The Jets pulled goaltender Brock Kautz, who had 34 saves in the game, with 1:19 remaining in a last-ditch effort to tie.

The strategy, which worked for Minnesota in Friday’s game against the Jets, backfired on Joe Dibble’s squad. Will Johnson scored for the Magicians to ensure the win.
