Jets score twice on power play in shootout win
JANESVILLE—After going 0-for-18 on the power play over their last five games, Adam Winborg and Michael Louria broke through for the Janesville Jets when they had a one-player advantage. Janesville then overcame a late game-tying goal to beat the Minnesota Magicians 5-4 after a shootout.
The Magicians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period through Kris McKinzie and Derick Kuchera before Grant Stueve scored at the 13:53 mark of the period. Minnesota’s Sandis Zolmanis was penalized for roughing with 18 seconds to go in the frame, and Winborg scored his power-play goal with six seconds to go with assists from Drew Callin and Jordan Himley.
Thomas Delaney struck back shortly after the third period began, but a tripping call against Kuchera gave Janesville another of its nine power-play opportunities. That’s when Louria scored his goal, assisted by Himley and Bryan Kronberger.
The Jets took a 4-3 lead in the third period with a goal from Zach Keryluk. The Magicians pulled their goalie with a minute to go, and Eetu Karvinen made it 4-4 with 25 seconds remaining to force a scoreless overtime.
Himley and Robin Hoglund scored in the shootout, and the four Magicians shooters were denied to give Janesville the win.
