Erna M. Rude, Fort Atkinson, WI (1912-2013)

Erna M. Rude, age 101, of Fort Atkinson, WI, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Wellington Meadows in Fort Atkinson, WI. Erna was born on a family farm in Whitewater, WI, on June 3, 1912, the daughter of Theodore and Olga (Schmidt) Heth. Erna was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whitewater, WI, on the 5th day of April, 1936. She graduated from Whitewater College High Class of 1931, and attended one year of Rural Course. She taught school for the White School in Cold Spring Township. On Nov. 7, 1935, Erna married Christ Rude in Belvidere, IL. Christ preceded her in death on July 23, 1989. Erna was a member of the East Koshkonong Lutheran Church in Cambridge, WI, and it's Mercy Circle. She taught Sunday School and was a 4-H Leader. Erna loved gardening, quilting, and enjoyed farm life. In her spare time she loved to paint, refinish furniture, work with stain glass, and loved to sew for the grandchildren.
Surviving are her children: Christian (Ruth) Rude of Cambridge, WI, Kenneth (Mei) Rude of Edgerton, WI, Donald (Janene) Rude of Fort Atkinson, WI, and Irene (Richard) Gunderson of Edgerton; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Agnes Goodrich and Verna Heth. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Erna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Christ Rude; three brothers: Alfred, Emil, and Edward Heth; five sisters: Emoline Wenzel, Irene Hausz, Elsbeth Johnson, Winifred Hathaway, and Hertha Heth; and a granddaughter, Julie Gunderson.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the EAST KOSHKONONG LUTHERAN CHURCH, 454 E. Church Road, Cambridge, WI, with Rev. David Nelsestuen officiating. Burial will be in the East Koshkonong Lutheran Cemetery, Cambridge.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the NITARDY FUNERAL HOME, Fort Atkinson, WI, and after 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the EAST KOSHKONONG LUTHERAN CHURCH in Cambridge, WI, until the time of the services.
