TOWN OF DELAVAN--One person is dead after a Tuesday-morning crash at the intersection of Highway 50 and Town Hall Road in the town of Delavan.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, a town of Delavan police officer reported a speeding vehicle traveling west on Highway 50 near Highway 12, according police officials.

The officer was traveling in the opposite direction and was unable to switch direction in time to stop it.

The vehicle ran off the road, hitting a utility pole and trees before stopping in the Walworth State Bank parking lot in the town of Delavan.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were damaged in the crash, according to town of Delavan police Lt. Scot Stefanczyk.

Stefanczyk said the deceased's vehicle was “extensively damaged."

The crash remained under investigation Tuesday, but speed was considered a factor.

The name of the deceased will be released after the family is notified, Stefanczyk said.
