NEW GLARUS— Jacob Marchillo and the Clinton Cougars weren't satisfied with simply making the WIAA Division 4 playoff bracket.

After winning their final two games to make the postseason, they went on the road to upset fourth-seeded New Glarus/Monticello on Friday night.

Marchillo, just three games back from a broken leg, carried the ball 16 times for 108 yards and three touchdowns, including one midway through the fourth quarter of the Cougars' 26-14 Level 1 playoff victory.

The game was tied 14-14 after three quarters before Clinton pulled away.

Quarterback Derek Severson dove in from three yards out with 11:33 left to break the tie. Severson had 91 yards on 21 carries.

Marchillo broke away from 39 yards out five and a half minutes later to make it a two-score game.

Because it went on the road in the first round, Clinton earned a Level 2 home game with the victory. The Cougars host Rock Valley South rival Big Foot on Friday. The Chiefs won the regular-season meeting, 42-12, on Sept. 27 at Clinton.
