EVANSVILLE—In an effort to keep prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands, Evansville police are giving residents with extra medications a chance to drop them off with local authorities.

Letting unwanted prescription drugs sit around a person's home makes it more likely they will be misused or abused, a police news release said.

From 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, police will collect and properly dispose of unwanted medication, including prescription pills and liquids, at the Evansville Police Station, 10 W. Church St.

The event is part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, according to the release.

Those who can't attend Saturday's event can dispose of old medication in the secure prescription drug drop-off box that is available 24 hours a day at the police department.
