Milton marching band earns fourth place at state tourney

MILTON—Milton High School's competitive Marching Band finished fourth in its division Saturday in the state marching band tournament, its best performance at state yet.

The Gazette profiled the band in a story published Oct. 13.

Milton High School Band Director Nate Pierce said the 81-member marching band finished fourth out of eight marching bands in Division III at the Wisconsin School Music Association's State Marching Band Championship Saturday at UW–Whitewater's Perkins Stadium.

The band scored 76.45 out of a possible 100 points, trailing third place Cedarburg High School by just two points  The band's color guard finished in third place in its division.

First-place River Falls High School finished with 89.6 points, and second-place Fort Atkinson High School finished with 85.7 points.

Milton's performance was the highest placing and score the band has received in its four years of competitive marching, Pierce said.

The state's 32 competitive high school marching bands are scored at the state tournament by a panel of judges who gauge the quality of music, marching and overall performance.
